Few of Stanisława Nowicka’s textile designs have survived. Archival traces are fragmentary: a handful of black-and-white photo-graphs, a curtain depicted in a drawing by Maciej Nowicki for the interior of the Carolina Country Club-on which they collaborated —and a single piece of fabric from the same location dating to the late 1940s. From these remnants, a constellation of motifs emerges: simplified, stylized plant forms interwoven with ribbons and sinuous lines, horses, and decorative shells —distinctive shapes defined by soft contours and rhythmic graphic movement that animate the interior space.

Almost nothing is known about the original color schemes of these designs. Turquoise green dominates the sole surviving textile, set against areas of pale beige; on closer inspection, faint traces of dove blue become visible. In the curtains shown in the design for the Carolina Country Club, dark blue, green, and rust tones intertwine across light cream paper.

The creative practices of Stanisława and Maciej Nowicki-from illustration to architecture-intertwined and complemented one another. This pattern was conceived as a dialogue between the two. The blue of the sky, drawn from their architectural visions, flows into characteristic looping ribbons. The motif of leaves and trees appears in Stanisława’s textiles and illustrations, and also in Maciej’s urban concepts, such as his plan for Chandigarh. Clouds drift through one of Stanistawa’s designs as well. Referencing the visual language of the late 1940s, the work seeks to capture a moment of optimism-expressed through colour, rhythm, and the fluid movement of the pattern.
